Description
Bells are used during spiritual rituals across many spiritual paths. This altar bell features a silver pentagram design and is a lovely addition to your sacred space or altar. Some people refer to it as a “witch’s bell” to distinguish it from bells used for other purposes, as it can be used in many other religions in addition to pagan and wiccan paths.
Some people use a bell for clearing the space before ritual begins, or to cleanse and charge crystals, herbs, and other items used in ritual and spellwork. Sound cleansing is a great alternative to smoke cleansing.
Some people put their bell on the left side of the altar, where tools representing the Goddess are found. In most traditions, it is associated with the element of Air, though some attribute it to Water because of the way sound waves ripple outward when the bell is rung.
In ritual, the bell may be used to invoke the Goddess, and/or the Elements. Some will ring it after casting the circle to seal the energy within, while others will ring it after releasing the circle to disperse any remaining energy. It can also be used to mark different sections of a longer ritual, such as the end of invocations and the beginning of the main body of the ritual. Bells also makes a lovely way to seal different kinds of spellwork.
Wiccans may also put a bell on the door to guard the home or place of work, which is why some wiccan shops will have a bell on the door that rings as you walk in.
